First team
For the first time against Wigry Suwałki. We’re playing for promotion to the round of 16.
Today at 18:00, we will play for promotion to the round of 16 in the Polish Cup, with our opponent in this phase of the competition being the third-league team, Wigry Suwałki.
Wigry Suwałki is a club that has successfully competed at the central level for many years and came close to promotion to the Ekstraklasa in the 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 seasons. In both cases, the team from northern Poland was six points shy of the second place that would have secured promotion to the higher league.
The 2019/2020 season ended with Wigry relegating from the first league after six years in the second tier of Polish football. The following two seasons saw Wigry competing at the third level.
At the beginning of the 2022/2023 season, the club withdrew from the second league due to financial issues. As a result, Wigry were demoted to the fourth league. They finished their first season in the fourth league in fourth place.
The second season was significantly better, culminating in promotion to the third league and winning the Podlaskie Football Association’s regional cup. In the grand final, the team from Suwałki defeated Olimpia Zambrów 3:2 in front of their home crowd, ensuring their participation at the central level in the ongoing 2024/2025 season. In the first round of this competition, Wigry won at home against Świt Szczecin 3:1, with goals from Kamil Zalewski, Michał Ozga, and Krzysztof Cudowski.
