Mariusz Pawlak is the new coach of Black Shirts! Coach, welcome home!
Mariusz Pawlak became the new coach of the first team of Polonia Warszawa. An experienced coach, associated with the Capital City Pride for many years as a player, signed a contract until the end of the 2024/2025 season.
Mariusz Pawlak is a character who needs no introduction to Polonia Warszawa fans. A long-time player of the Black Shirts, Polish champion in 2000, winner of the Polish Cup and Super Cup, a true Polish player of flesh and blood, who showed his attachment to the Pride of the Capital not only on the pitch, but also off it! A fighter on the pitch, tenacious, fighting for every meter of the pitch – this is how Polonia Warszawa fans might remember Mariusz Pawlak from the game at Konwiktorska 6. The popular “Gypsy” represented the Black Shirts in the years 1996-2002 and 2007-2009.
After hanging up his boots in 2011, he started working as a coach. On the training bench, he coached clubs such as Chojniczanka Chojnice, Gryf Wejherowo, GKS Bełchatów, Olimpia Grudziądz (twice) and Wisła Puławy. In his career so far, he has worked at three levels of competition (first, second and third league). He won a total of three promotions.
- Season 2012/2013: promotion with Chojniczanka Chojnice to the 1st League and work at this level for three consecutive seasons.
Season 2018/2019: promotion with Olimpia Grudziądz to the 1st League
- Season 2020/2021: promotion with Wisła Puławy to the 2nd League
In October last year, he took on the difficult task of keeping Olimpia Grudziądz in the second league. Coach Pawlak turned the last team in the table into a team that played impressive and effective football, which resulted in taking 14th place in the table. In spring, Olimpia lost only three of the 14 games played, collecting 21 points during that time.
In June, coach Pawlak left Grudziądz to fulfill his professional dream in less than two months, which was to work at Konwiktorska 6 as a coach.
Coach, welcome home!
